FAQs on Trade Compliance

To assist our customers and partners, we’ve provided direct access to important resources related to trade compliance:

Why is trade compliance important?
Trade compliance ensures that regulated items like body armor are exported and used responsibly, preventing misuse and aligning with national security interests.

What is ITAR and how does it apply to body armor?
ITAR governs the export of defense-related articles and services, including personal protective equipment like body armor. Items classified under ITAR require strict authorization for export or re-export.

What is EAR and how does it differ from ITAR?
EAR regulates the export of commercial and dual-use items that have military and non-military applications. Unlike ITAR, EAR focuses on broader use cases and licensing exemptions.

Does CAG assist with export license applications?
Yes, CAG provides guidance to customers requiring export licenses. Contact us for assistance.

Shipping and Licensing

Custom Armor Group follows written procedures to determine proper shipping authorizations, ensuring compliance with U.S. laws:

  • License Required: When items fall under regulated categories with no exceptions.
  • License Exceptions: When an exception applies, specifying the exception code.
  • No License Required (NLR): When items are not subject to licensing requirements.

Customers are advised to confirm their responsibilities regarding destination controls, end-use, and recipient eligibility prior to placing orders.

Important Notices

  1. ITAR and EAR Compliance: Transfers to foreign nationals, even within the U.S., may constitute an export and require authorization.
  2. OFAC Sanctions: Certain destinations and individuals are prohibited from receiving CAG products.
  3. Customer Verification: CAG requires proof of lawful U.S. person status for controlled items. Acceptable documents include passports or birth certificates.
